Feedback Thoughts

Feedback Photo. Source: Ausmed The first article I read was Try Feedforward Instead of Feedback . The thought of feedforward means to give suggestions aimed at helping the other person change. The idea is that providing feedforward rather than feedback, is less embarrassing and critical to the people on the receiving end. It's supposed to help people learn what they did right rather than what they did wrong. Feedforward suggestions aren't taken as personally as feedback and make people more accepting of the suggestions. It also tends to be much faster and more efficient than feedback. The second article I read was The Difference Between Praise and Feedback . This article was mainly parenting focused so it took some rethinking to get it to apply to the classroom. The other makes three main points of process praise, praise and personhood and praise vs. feedback. The first point of process praise describes praising the process of the activity or situation the person complete

Reading Notes: Dasharatha's Sons Part A

Source: Bestmoodle Characters in the Scene: King Dasharatha Kaushalya Kaikeyi Brahma Vishnu Shiva Indra Plot : King Dasharatha and Kaushalya conduct a horse sacrifice to please the gods so they can have sons. Setting : The north bank of the Sarayu river Story Idea:  I didn't really like the actual killing of the horse. I understand the background of sacrifices but I could change the story to just letting the horse roam free and wild as the sacrifice. I also think in order to continue their race, they might need more kids then just four. Source: http://ouocblog.blogspot.com/2011/07/pde-ramayana-getting-of-sons.html

Work Life. Source: Pexel The first article I read was 6 Bad Mental Habits That Sabotage Your Success.  Unfortunately, I down about four out of the six things on a daily basis. I am the director of an organization on campus and it is really easy to believe in self-doubt when working with your peers but also trying to direct them. I don't typically make excuses for things that I do wrong and I'm pretty level-headed and don't believe in "what if?" scenarios. But when it comes to self-doubt, seeking audience approval, putting yourself down and second guessing yourself I am certainly guilty. Being a leader is hard even in non-leadership scenarios. There's a constant notion that you have to be "on" all the time and it's a lot of pressure. Especially as it comes closer to have to apply for jobs. People are constantly asking me what places and in what areas and it's really overwhelming because they're people who look up to me. This applies t

Topic Brainstorm

Ganesha. Source: TemplePurohit The first topic I brainstormed was the Ganesha . I chose this one because my roommate has a picture of one in her room and the other images of seen of them, they're really beautiful and I was excited to read more about them. I really liked the Tales of Ganesha, A Might Sweet Tooth story. The opening that made it relevant to the Norman area kept it relevant to what my own personal experiences are and kept my interest. Also highlighting the Ganesha's love for sweets was relevant to me because I do too! The next topic I read about was Yoga . I chose this topic because I'm currently in a yoga class for fitness purposes but don't know much of the history behind it. The section that explained the origin of the Virabhadrasana poses was very disturbing. I have always though of those poses as empowering stances but they are formed from the death of Sati after a fight with her father. The next topic I read about was Elephants . I really l

Ackrama. Source: OUOCBlog I'm really excited to start reading the stories for this semester. The ones that are the most intriguing to me are different versions of  Ramayana . I enjoy comic books so reading a classic story in a different adapted version seems really cool. I'm also excited to read the other version of  Mahabharata in comic book form or maybe even the movie version. I've always heard a lot about Bhagavad Gita so I'm really excited to learn and read more about the character.

Time Strategies

Red alarm clock. Source: Pixabay I often struggle with how to manage my time because I over commit myself. I'm currently the Public Relations Director of the student-run advertising and public relations firm, Lindsey + Asp, which is in Gaylord College. I also intern at the Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust three times a week and I'm the Publicity Chair of the It's On Us task force on campus. I do all of this while also taking 19 hours this semester. People will often ask me to grab lunch or coffee and I immediately have to open my planner before I'm able to respond. The time schedule I worked out for this class still works best for me though it's going to take some catching up to get there. My best days for work are Fridays and Sundays and since assignments are due the middle of the week, I have to catch up a little bit to get on that schedule because I didn't manage my time well on this Sunday to kick that off today. One of the articles I read was  "Inc

Technology

Fingers typing on keyboard. Source: CDN I am familiar with some of these technology tools. I have made websites on Weebly and Wix. This online environment is similar to other classes I've taken because it is strictly online but also different because it takes you to an outside website to do most of the assignments and that is taking some getting used to. Web skills I would like to work on this semester are making blog posts more exciting and engaging with other people in my classes.
