Feedback Thoughts

Work Life. Source: Pexel The first article I read was 6 Bad Mental Habits That Sabotage Your Success.  Unfortunately, I down about four out of the six things on a daily basis. I am the director of an organization on campus and it is really easy to believe in self-doubt when working with your peers but also trying to direct them. I don't typically make excuses for things that I do wrong and I'm pretty level-headed and don't believe in "what if?" scenarios. But when it comes to self-doubt, seeking audience approval, putting yourself down and second guessing yourself I am certainly guilty. Being a leader is hard even in non-leadership scenarios. There's a constant notion that you have to be "on" all the time and it's a lot of pressure. Especially as it comes closer to have to apply for jobs. People are constantly asking me what places and in what areas and it's really overwhelming because they're people who look up to me. This applies t

Topic Brainstorm

Ganesha. Source: TemplePurohit The first topic I brainstormed was the Ganesha . I chose this one because my roommate has a picture of one in her room and the other images of seen of them, they're really beautiful and I was excited to read more about them. I really liked the Tales of Ganesha, A Might Sweet Tooth story. The opening that made it relevant to the Norman area kept it relevant to what my own personal experiences are and kept my interest. Also highlighting the Ganesha's love for sweets was relevant to me because I do too! The next topic I read about was Yoga . I chose this topic because I'm currently in a yoga class for fitness purposes but don't know much of the history behind it. The section that explained the origin of the Virabhadrasana poses was very disturbing. I have always though of those poses as empowering stances but they are formed from the death of Sati after a fight with her father. The next topic I read about was Elephants . I really l

Reading Options

Image
Ackrama. Source: OUOCBlog I'm really excited to start reading the stories for this semester. The ones that are the most intriguing to me are different versions of  Ramayana . I enjoy comic books so reading a classic story in a different adapted version seems really cool. I'm also excited to read the other version of  Mahabharata in comic book form or maybe even the movie version. I've always heard a lot about Bhagavad Gita so I'm really excited to learn and read more about the character.

Time Strategies

Image
Red alarm clock. Source: Pixabay I often struggle with how to manage my time because I over commit myself. I'm currently the Public Relations Director of the student-run advertising and public relations firm, Lindsey + Asp, which is in Gaylord College. I also intern at the Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust three times a week and I'm the Publicity Chair of the It's On Us task force on campus. I do all of this while also taking 19 hours this semester. People will often ask me to grab lunch or coffee and I immediately have to open my planner before I'm able to respond. The time schedule I worked out for this class still works best for me though it's going to take some catching up to get there. My best days for work are Fridays and Sundays and since assignments are due the middle of the week, I have to catch up a little bit to get on that schedule because I didn't manage my time well on this Sunday to kick that off today. One of the articles I read was  "Inc

Technology

Image
Fingers typing on keyboard. Source: CDN I am familiar with some of these technology tools. I have made websites on Weebly and Wix. This online environment is similar to other classes I've taken because it is strictly online but also different because it takes you to an outside website to do most of the assignments and that is taking some getting used to. Web skills I would like to work on this semester are making blog posts more exciting and engaging with other people in my classes.

Assignments

I am intrigued by the different reading assignments. This is unlike what I have done in my other classes because most of my course work is hands on and there's not a lot of reading. All of the extra credit options grab my attention because there are a lot of them.

Growth Mindset

Image
I had never heard of Carol Dweck or the growth mindset before. I have heard of a lot of the different sayings, like the one above but didn't realize it had a name. I do recognize that I have a fixed mindset at times and I'm afraid to fail. Leading an organization that I am can be very difficult at times to try new things with the fear of failing. However, I also know that I can grow my talents and strengths to overcome that failure and reassure myself that the idea will be successful. While being at OU I've learned that I tend to have a fixed mindset without encouragement from others. I'm very hard on myself in my work and that is often to my own determent. Encouragement from other always helps me to believe in myself. I do think I would be interested in learning more about the growth mindset this semester. My personal learning goals for this semester are the take in what I'm reading and learning and now take it at surface level. I'm taking several

Introduction

My name is Erin Tabberer, I am a public relations major with a minor in enterprise studies. That's me above with the cutest dog I've ever seen that's not mine unfortunately. The coolest thing about my major is that I get to talk to so many people and learn new things about them everyday. The best class I took last semester was my crisis communication class because I find it really interesting and fun to be forced to communication quickly and well under pressure. My biggest accomplishment last semester was becoming the Public Relations Director for Lindsey + Asp, the student-run public relations and advertising firm. I coordinate six different client teams and it's like a real job! We work with several of the OU Athletic team, Fathom Travel and FCCA which are companies of Carnival Corporation. We also run day of social media for the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon and have to be at the event at 3:00 AM. The picture above is the previous Public Relations Director

Storybook Favorites

Image
My top three storybooks are: Voldemort's Reincarnation : The title of this storybook intrigued me because I love Harry Potter. The introduction does a good job of explaining what the other stories are about. The introduction was intriguing the way it connected Harry Potter and the Ramayan. Seeing the connection between a modern story and one from a culture is cool. The layout of the page doesn't affect my reaction to the introduction. The physical layout of the pages is easy to navigate. The images on the pages were interesting because I recognized them from the Harry Potter movies. In my own page I would use the font and page layout. Law & Order: SSU : The title of this storybook intrigued me because I love Law & Order. The introduction does a good job of explaining what the other stories are about. The end of the introduction was intriguing when it was going into the beings they were protecting. The layout and design of the page doesn't affect my reaction

New York City, My Favorite Place

Image
Caption: New York City Skyline New York City, NY While I have only visited the city once, it was magical. The fast paced, loud lifestyle was something that sweeps you off your feet. Seeing the different people, restaurants, shops and experiences you could have in one place was mesmerizing. I went my junior year of high school for a choir trip. We sang at Carnegie Hall and I still have dreams about that day. It was such an amazing trip and I hope to visit again someday.
